Update: It’s both Diabetes Awareness Month and Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

These are important awareness campaigns that overlap during this month. Funded by the NIH, the USC Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center focuses on mild cognitive changes related to aging, Alzheimer’s disease and cerebrovascular disease (CVD) in multi-ethnic communities. The Center aims to elucidate vascular contributions to Alzheimer’s disease.

We have new research study called that examines how glucose and insulin may be affecting the brain, as well as how the health of blood vessels may impact memory; the study is called Healthier Vessels, Healthier Brains Study and are currently seeking volunteers to participate. This study is for individuals 60+ years old and who have pre-diabetes, diabetes, high blood pressure and/or high cholesterol. Participants need to be English or Spanish-speaking in the Los Angeles Area (or willing to get to USC).

For more information call Lina D’Orazio, Ph.D. (323) 442-7680 or Maria Hernandez (323) 442-6845 at the USC Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. You can find more information about the study at: http://adrc.usc.edu/Healthier-Brain-Study.
